 | | Team MS is represented in USA Rally | | Jim,
I was indeed, great time. Team MS was well represented again by Joseph Burke. It was his first time out in the Mitsubishi and he charged all the way to 6th overall.. Too bad we did not have any of the big graphics, they look so good, we might get a few made up for the next round. We can put together a wee press release if you don’t mind.
O, by the way I am also shooting for Ford and Monster World Rally Team.. www.monsterworldrallyteam.com http://www.fordracing.com |

 | Mike Elliot | | | Hello Jim' Thanks so much for all you are doing in raising awareness of MS. I have raced vintage road race for many years, until I was recently diagnosed with primary progressive MS. I was having symptoms for a few years prior to the diagnosis, but for the most part just worked around them. I had to think long and hard about quitting racing, but in the end, it was necessary. No job, no insurance, etc. I hope you are able to continue with your racing. I have learned to be thankful (most days) for whatever I am able to do. I can still walk a bit, and my eyesight isn't too bad, just blurry. I spend lots of time visualizing racing which is bitter sweet. I also have been building a bike, which is great therapy and keeps my mind engaged. Again, thank you for the inspiration! Mike |

.jpg&width=350&height=) | | Jeff Stanfield | | | There are a lot of reasons to not enjoy living with MS, but without a doubt one of the best (and the only one that springs to mind, of the reason’s we keep going) is the people you meet who are living with this illness. I have been fortune enough to recently be introduced to Jeff Stanfield. I received the following e-mail from Sherry telling me about Jeff. I am using Sherry’s words below because she has managed to say what every person who lives with someone with MS does everyday. They keep us moving and Jeff is a great example of what Team MS is all about. People staying in life! |

 | | A letter from my friend Pete that reminds us all of how special each day is! | | Jim, As you know I've esp. been struggling quite a bit lately with the MS, with depression and especially with the blindness. (I can't even say "my" blindness yet.) I have been getting ready for it for some time as the Multiple Sclerosis has been progressing, but nothing can truly prepare you for the reality of it once it finally happens. I'm afraid that I'm not being a very good blind person. I'm angry, even rageful, afraid, sometimes to the point of panic. I'm frustrated and disapointed and bitter. It's still relatively ne w and I know I have to work through the grief and drastic changes, but it's been hard. So hard. I'm approaching the one year anniversary of The Day I Went Blind. |

 | | MS walk | | After last week's post my cousin and I decided that we would sign up for the MS Walk in our area to be held on April 12. Because of a few nasty things going on with his MS right now, he isn't able to walk the 5 miles so he signed up as a volunteer and fundraiser. He'll drive the pick up car for any participant who can't make the 5 miles (hopefully it won't be me!). I'll be walking, but haven't walked too far this winter - I've done a good job at hibernating and storing food like a bear. So, on the treadmill today and starting a diet tomorrow (bluck). I intend to lose weight this spring while getting in shape to walk the walk (and by the numbers on the scale the diet and exercise will need to go on long after the walk...oy!)
We've recruited others, too. My cousin's two brothers and his sister are going to join us. His sister's fiance. His wife and daughter are going to walk. And, my mother is going to walk with us (and will probably have to wait for all of us to catch up). We have another member or two who will probably join along the way, too. It's quite a team of walking Toccis! Here's my walk page where you can see my cousin and link to our family page and see the whole gang.
We are all serious about this because we are all touched by this disease each day because we are all so close and have watched my cousin's struggles (and triumphs!) throughout the years. For me, I've also got two other people who are near and dear to me who live with this every single day. They each amaze me to no end. They are truly remarkable people.
So, on this day meant for family and friends, our family is bonding together for a common goal and common good for all 400,000 Americans living with this disease (and those who are touched by it through them). I think that's the true spirit of the day anyway no matter what religion.
I wish you all a wonderful day to be with your family, your friends and maybe even your bike.
Happy Family Day!

 | Scott Blomeyer | | | Hi, After a long break from riding, I recently got a Supermoto and have been riding as much as my health permits. I was diagnosed with MS in 1998. It has been difficult at times, to go without riding. It is very nice and motivational as well to see folks with MS on bikes riding at such a competitive level. Keep up the riding it helps all of us! Thanks, Scott Blomeyer |

.jpg&width=350&height=) | | SURVIVED OUR FIRST BAJA TEST!! | | | Team MS/David Bailey/Pro-Tec (264x) completed the Baja 250 last weekend, the first step in our goal of completing the 500. It proved to be a good idea to use the 250 as a precursor to the 500 to familiarize us with the logistics of racing in Baja. We learned that racing in Mexico is a whole different ballgame. The ordeal was a very exciting 5 days for our team which consisted of my two sons Dana and Cody and I. The three of us drove the couple hundred miles down to Ensenada on Wednesday pulling our toybox with our race XR650R and CRF250X pre-runner. We completed our pre-running on Thursday; on Friday we signed in, went through Tech and rested. On Saturday we raced, the boys covered the majority of the distance, I cruised to the finish. We enjoyed all the finishing activities provided by Tecate Beer and then collapsed in bed. |

Jim; Update on Team/MS/David Bailey.
I’ve formed an off-road motorcycle team to help promote awareness for Multiple Sclerosis and David Bailey. I’ve been following Team/MS for years, observing how you have been able to promote MS awareness and provide needed information through your website. I’d like to help further your message by exposing your following to off-road riding. I’m motivated because I have MS, and I ride. Recently I’ve had the pleasure of meeting the eighties MX Champion and nineties Triathlon Champion David Bailey. He’s quite the hero, he has fought and fought through numerous physical injuries. He is a tremendous inspiration to anyone, especially those who battle an illness on a daily basis. All of us off-road motorcycle enthusiasts owe a tremendous amount of thanks to David for his contribution to the industry. |

 | | Winning on four wheels | | Jon Minor has been busy this last year racing under the Team MS banner. I asked Jon why he was interested in running the team logo and he answered that he has been fortunate in his life and he wanted to do something that would help people. We need more people like Jon in the world.
Thanks Jon! |

 | | You meet the nicest people! | | | Sorry I've taken so long to say THANKS for the stickers! The extras were much appreciated! I was waiting to get a picture of me on my handcycle with my helmet on for you. You can't see the sticker very well in the picture, but it's there. I'm guessing from your email address and envelope return that you're involved with bicycles? Well I finally got someone to get a picture on the 4th of July during a morning beach ride. My bike is awesome! It is aluminum, has 21shimano gearing, VERY light, and is a "leaner". A leaner means it steers by body leaning not handlebar turning. I feel like a superbike racer on it. yah right! I don't know why more with MS don't know about them. I have never met anyone else with MS who knows about them. My ride and race buddies are mostly amputees and paras. My handcycle gave me back a part of my life I had lost when I couldn't ride my Cagiva anymore. SPEED, INDEPENDENCE, COMPETITION, EXERCISE, AND FUN! And no one knows I'm disabled when I'm on it. They are shocked when they look at my bike and ask about it. I recommend them to everyone I see in a wheelchair. |

 | | Walking for MS | | Hi there: Just wanted to give you an update on our walking team. We are now well over our goal of $1,500. We're over $1,700! And, I still have 3 people to donate who said they would and Jody and Leah have yet to enter their people. We'll have over $2,000. Doesn't seem like a ton, but at least it's helping the fight! Now....I just have to get out there and walk....yikes! I think Neil and I are most concerned with keeping up with my 65 year old mother...truly. I'll keep you posted on 'your' team! Donna |
